Plate cultures are ideal for mushroom growers looking to make master bags, inoculate grain, make liquid culture, or make more plates.

Our Black King plates are made to order in our in-house lab using medical-grade petri dishes. If properly stored upon arrival, they have a shelf life of approximately 12 months. Black King plates should be stored in the refrigerator to maintain viability. Note that mycelium cultures require basic lab skills. Handle using sterile technique to prevent contamination.

'Marbled' black king (Pleurotus spp.) is a reliable commercial strain that grows some of the heartiest mushrooms with beautiful brown marbled caps and soft stems. When cultivated successfully, you can expect a large harvest of very meaty and delicious mushrooms. This strain is a cross between oyster and king trumpets originated in Japan and naturally occurs in Americas in early 00's. It prefers cooler temperatures and is prone to drying out or stopping growth if humidity is not maintained when the mushrooms are still in their early stages. Black King Oyster is also referred to as Shimofuri.
